There will come a day on the world race when you are confronted with the unexpected and pushed to your limits.
It’s going to look different for everyone.
For some it’s the loss of privacy, others it may be the hot weather. But I find most of the time it is the combination of a lot of things that push you over the edge.
For example, when you have COVID, you can’t taste or smell, its been 95 degrees for 10 days and you have sweat dripping down your legs as you sit on the floor in front of a fan, you have been quarantined for 15 days unable to cook for youself or go to the store or even go for a walk, you have to wash your clothes in the bathtub with dawn dish soap, the same bathtub you are sharing with 22 other people, and at the end of another long day the only team who can make food comes down to inform you that the only food left in the kitchen is chicken and oatmeal.
So here you sit on the verge of a complete mental breakdown and it’s in that moment that you realize you have a choice.
You don’t have to allow the circumstances to define your attitude, and more importantly that life isn’t about being comfortable.
It’s not about clean clothes, or healthy foods, it’s not about whether you can taste food or smell the rotting Nalgene. It’s about the work that God is doing in the world. It’s about the world seeing God’s grace and the work that Paul did from prison. Its about pouring into each other, loving the people you are with and choosing joy moment after moment. And realizing so much of our lives are focused on maintaining a level of comfort that isn’t necessary. Yes it I good to have a washer and dryer, and to go for walks, but our God is Jehova Jirah, the Lord who provides, and He will give you what you need.
So whether you get a four course meal, or chicken and oatmeal, praise the Lord for the life we have.
Wow! What a test of character! Your team is blessed to have you with them and encourage them. What you go through now, will prepare you and enable God to use you in areas where you might not have been so willing before. God bless you!
Wow, to be grateful for a meal of chicken and oatmeal would be hard for most of us.You have reminded us of the most important things, and that lesson came to you when you had Covid. Girl, you rock!
So good, Madison! Yes, you are correct—attitude is a choice and YOU continue to choose in. Choosing in is easy when things are going well, but having to make that decision when things are not so good? Well, that becomes the remnant. Blessings and prayers for you as you moved forward into the great stuff!
